Fountain Care and Maintenance
Fountain Safety
* Since your water fountain depends on a small electrical pump, and since water conducts electricity, use common sense and take reasonable precautions against shock hazards:* The fountain should be close enough to an electrical outlet that no extension cord is required.
* Do not run power cords under carpets or across areas of foot traffic or where chair legs or other objects could get tangled in the cord. Someone might trip and fall or pull the water feature over.
* Usually, the pump requires a grounded three-pronged 110-volt outlet. Ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI) equipped outlets, as with anything near water, are recommended for protection against electrical shock hazards. If you are in doubt about the electrical safety measures in your house or office wiring, consult a professional electrician.
* Position the cord for the pump so that any water which might ever leak, spill, or splash does not drip into the electrical outlet. Let the cord hang below the level of the outlet, so if water does run down the cord it will drip on the floor before reaching the outlet.
* While unlikely, as with any electrical cord, a pet or child could be electrocuted by chewing or otherwise cutting through the power cord. Try to position the fountain so its power cord is out of sight and out of reach of children and pets.
* Submersible pumps are not designed to work under water, not in air and should ONLY be used when covered with water. Never let your pump run dry (run without water flowing through it), you may damage the pump by allowing it to run dry. If the pump is making a sucking or growling sound, it is telling you: GIVE ME WATER!
Turn off the pump if you’re going to be away for a prolonged time (unavailable to monitor and replenish the water).

CONSIDER LOCATION
These are freestanding units, often of a size and design which make them a focal point in a room. Generally speaking, because of their overall size, height, and/or weight, these fountains are intended to be placed on the floor, not on a table or other elevated, supporting surface. The location should be firm and level, both for safety and the performance of the water feature.
UNPACK YOUR SCULPTURE
By now you have found the perfect spot to place your water sculpture. Take the boxed sculpture to the desired location and carefully remove the box and wrapping. Place the fountain in the desired location ensuring that the piece is on a level and sturdy surface.
CHECK THE PUMP
Make sure that the pump is in place and fastened securely to the sculpture. Check that all tubing is securley fastened in place.
ADD WATER
Using DISTILLED WATER only, add water to the base – the reservoir container – of your sculpture only to the top of the pump only, be sure there is enough water to completely submerge the pump.
